DRAGON'S CROWN PSP VITA REVIEW

Game Title: Dragon's Crown
Developed & Published by: Vanillaware / ATLUS
Genre: Side-scrolling - RPG-ish
Platforms: PS3 / PSVITA

Well, Dragon's Crown was a purchase day one game for me.   Even though, the English version of Dragon's Crown would be released 2 weeks later.  I went ahead and bought a hard copy of DC with full intentions of selling it back if it sucked ass or if didn't allow crossplay between the Japanese and American version of the game.  (Which I will find out this week!)

Quite honestly, even with little to absolutely no knowledge of Japanese.  The in-game menus, item system and level-up are pretty easy to figure out for experienced gamers. But the best part about this game is the Dungeon Master.  This guy deserves a Video Game Emmy for his incredible voice acting performance in this game.  After you complete every level, the Dungeon Master goes on a marvelous spiel on the epicness of your just completed task and then he follows it with a forecast of the great adventures that lie ahead. We all know the basic gist of the typical "Look over yonder! There is a dragon! The Dragons are Bad! Slay the Dragon! HEROES we have become!" storyline.  But this guy does one helluva job of keeping it interesting throughout the game.  Also the voice actor for Roni the bandit/merchant thief that follows you throughout your quests sounds just like Stewie from Family Guy.  He or she deserves an award as well.

DC is extremely beautiful (and expensive) game. You can choose from a total of 6 very well animated characters.  A fighter, dwarf, wizard, elf, amazon and of course the incredibily well-endowed
soceress.  I garantee that they will be internet memes about the Amazon character and her Major Lazer Bubble Butt Ass very soon.  But alas if we look away from the mountain sexual indunidos in the game, players should take the time to notice and respect how much artistic time, input and effort was put into creating this game.  I've taken over 100 screenshots of the game in a week and can easily imagine seeing these images blown up in an art gallery somewhere.  I would even go as far to say that DC is a visual 2D soft porn wonder and this is probably where Vanillaware spent a good portion of that million dollar budget.

The game plays like your typical side-scrolling action game with a ton of character leveling up options, puzzles and different adventure path choices to choose from during the process of your game.  So if you enjoyed games such as Double Dragon, Castlevania SOTN, Guardian Heroes or Valkyrie Profile, make sure to add DC to your game library.

I beat the game offline on normal by myself just to get a feel of the game in 3 days.  Then on the 4th day when I decided to get online and play. The game got a lot more difficult. The online play via wifi (That does not require Ad-hoc) was so surprisingly silky smooth! This makes the game go a lot faster and now I can kinda see how to fully complete the game with all the characters.

What would I fix? There is always room for improvement kids and if there is to be a another DC2. This is what I want to be adjusted.

A versus mode might be interesting. More character classes and an option to be the NPC would be spicy!

OH AND THE NEXT TIME THIS GAME COMES OUT. IT NEEDS TO BE BUNDLED!  YES, I AM GREEDY BUT IF YOU GONNA CHARGE ME $60~$70 FOR A 2-D GAME WITH JUST SOFT CORE PORN THAT IS AN EASY PORT!  I WANT THE PS3 VERSION, THE PS VITA VERSION & THE ARTBOOK TOO!
